The last Harbour Festival in the Port of Port elizabeth was held in 2005 which saw attendance figures exceeding 70 000 people.
This year’s Harbour Festival will be hosted by the Transnet Ports Authority on the 25th and 26th March 2017.
The TNPA said that the rejuvenation of this event will have substantial social, economic enterprise development and tourism-boosting benefits for the wider metropole.
TNPA will be introducing the public to their vision of a “Smart Peoples Port” whilst presenting the city with an opportunity to enhance and amplify efforts to market the city as a tourist destination of choice.
The Harbour Festival will showcase existing and potential business in and around the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality through edutaunment activities and exhibitions. The diverse programme of events will include live entertainment, water and land based sports activities, arts and crafts.
“We believe that the Harbour Festival has far reaching potential for the Port, it’s customers, stakeholders and the city,” said TNPA Port Manager Rajesh Dana.
“As a long standing stakeholder of 57 years in the Port of Port Elizabeth we welcome and fully support the Harbour Festival whilst quietly hoping that it will be the catalyst for the proposed PE Waterfront,” said ABYC Commodore Alan Straton.
The Harbour Festival will be organised by Magnetic Storm.
